The Swarm (6-Late Intermediate)
The Swarm is a contemporary-style piece that features a relentless, rapid pulse and stinging, dissonant harmonies. This is a musical depiction of a chase between a swarm of angry hornets, and a victim that is furiously trying to outrun them. This fury slows to a contrasting slower section that is characterized by an unhurried yet unsettling melody that speaks over open fifths. The performer then improvises their own melody over these open fifths. We return to the chase, fast and furious through to the end!
